The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) funds a range of healthcare services for Australian veterans, war widows, and war widowers. Physiotherapy is one of the allied health services funded under DVA, covering the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, neurological conditions, and post-surgical rehabilitation. Alpha Physio is a contracted physiotherapy provider in Brisbane’s western suburbs.
DVA physiotherapy may include physical assessment and movement analysis, manual therapy, exercise prescription, hydrotherapy, mobility and balance programs, and education in self-management strategies. Our physiotherapists assess and treat DVA patients using an evidence-based approach, with care tailored to your individual health profile, service history, and treatment goals. All treatment is provided within the scope of your DVA funding and referral.

Am I eligible?
DVA eligibility for physiotherapy depends primarily on the type of card you hold:
- White Card (Repatriation Health Card for Specific Conditions): covers treatment for accepted service-related conditions only. Your White Card lists the specific conditions that are covered. A D904 referral form from your GP is required for most White Card physiotherapy referrals.
- Gold Card (Repatriation Health Card for All Conditions): covers treatment for all medical conditions, including those unrelated to your service. Gold Card holders have the broadest access to DVA-funded allied health services.

How the referral process works
Accessing DVA physiotherapy at Alpha Physio is straightforward once your referral is in order. We aim to communicate clearly with your referring GP and DVA throughout your care.
- Confirm your card type and coverage — White Card holders confirm that their condition is listed on their card. Gold Card holders can proceed without this check.
- Obtain a D904 referral form — White Card holders visit your GP and ask them to complete a D904 Referral for Allied Health Services form.
- Contact us to book — call (07) 3279 3871 or book online. Bring your DVA card, referral form (if required), and any relevant medical documentation.
- Initial assessment — your physiotherapist reviews your referral and conducts a thorough assessment of your condition, goals, and physical function.
- Direct DVA billing — as a contracted provider, Alpha Physio manages the billing process. No upfront payment is required for DVA-funded treatment.
What happens at your appointment
Your initial DVA physiotherapy appointment is typically 45 to 60 minutes. Your physiotherapist will review your DVA referral documentation, take a thorough history of your condition, and conduct a physical assessment covering the relevant body regions, movement patterns, strength, and functional capacity. Treatment may include hands-on therapy, supervised exercise, and a home program to support your progress between appointments.
