Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds a range of supports for Australians with a permanent and significant disability. Physiotherapy under the NDIS typically falls within the Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living support category. This category funds allied health services that help participants improve their functional capacity, manage their condition, and participate more fully in daily life.
NDIS physiotherapy may include physical assessment and monitoring, exercise prescription, manual therapy, hydrotherapy, mobility and balance programs, and education and self-management strategies. Our physiotherapists assess and treat participants with a wide range of conditions, including neurological conditions, musculoskeletal injuries, developmental delays, and post-surgical rehabilitation needs. All treatment is evidence-based and aligned with each participant’s NDIS goals.
Every session is measured against your stated NDIS outcomes. Progress is clear, documented, and ready for plan review.
To access physiotherapy through your NDIS plan, your plan must include funding under the Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living support category. Alpha Physio currently accepts self and plan managed NDIS participants. Two plan management types affect how your physiotherapy is billed:
If you are unsure which management type applies to your plan, check your NDIS plan documentation or contact your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) before booking.
Accessing NDIS physiotherapy at Alpha Physio involves a few simple steps. Our team is available to answer questions about the booking and billing process before your first visit.
Your initial NDIS physiotherapy appointment typically runs for 60 minutes. Your physiotherapist will review your medical history and NDIS goals, assess your posture, strength, range of motion, balance, and functional movement, and discuss your priorities and any barriers to participation. Follow-up appointments are structured around your treatment plan and NDIS funding. If your situation changes or your funding needs review, we can communicate with your plan manager on your behalf.
How your physiotherapy is billed depends on your plan management type:
Plan Managed — a plan management provider administers your budget. We invoice your plan manager, no upfront payment from you.
Self Managed — you pay for your appointment and claim the cost back through the NDIS portal.
Support category — physiotherapy is typically funded under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living. Your LAC can confirm.
NDIS-funded physiotherapy commonly supports participants managing these conditions:
Please bring your NDIS plan or a copy of your funding approval, along with your participant number and the contact details of your plan manager (if plan managed). Having your plan details available helps us identify the correct support budget and billing pathway at your first visit.
If your NDIS plan includes funding under the Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living support category, you may be eligible for physiotherapy support. Your NDIS plan or your plan manager can confirm whether physiotherapy is included and how much funding is available. If you are unsure, contact the NDIS or your Local Area Coordinator before booking.
A GP referral is not required to access physiotherapy through your NDIS plan. However, if your GP has recommended physiotherapy and provided a referral letter, please bring it along, as it helps our physiotherapists understand your medical history and tailor your assessment accordingly.
You can book online via our Cliniko booking system or call us on (07) 3279 3871. When booking, let us know you are an NDIS participant and your plan management type (Plan Managed or Self Managed) so we can confirm the billing pathway before your appointment.
